How to determine a landing runway from the winds

Postby ManiaSmurf » Mon Jan 25, 2010 10:25 pm

Wind at 90 degrees means wind blowing from east to west. 09R means the runway has a heading of 90 degrees. Landing on it you'll be going west to east.

In other words, wind at 90 degrees calls for rwy 09.

If the wind is very close to 90 degrees off the available runway heading (coming straight from the side), you prefer wind from the left since increases in wind speed (gusts) will hit you in the nose (wind heading increases with wind speed beacause of coreolis effect). X-plane won't simulate this, but you can set up gust settings yourself to increase realism.
